in urban areas and rural areas. and the fact is, the vast majority of gun owners in america are responsible. they buy their guns legally, and they use them safely, whether for hunting or sports shooting, collection, or protection. but, you know what, i am also betting that the majority, the vast majority, of responsible, law-abiding gun owners would be some of the first to say we should be able to keep an irresponsible law-breaking few from buying a weapon of war. i'm willing to bet that they don't think using a gun and using common sense are incompatible ideas, that an unbalanced man shouldn't be able to get his hands on a military-style assault rifle so easily, that in this age of technology, we should be able to check someone's criminal records before he or she can check out at a gun show. that if we work harder to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, there would be fewer atrocities like the one in newtown or any of the lesser-known tragedies that visit small towns and big cities all across america every day. since friday morning, a police officer was gunned down in memphis, l

that was going on, unbelievable. 1965, america took the step to become a compassion nature nation where we would take care of the elderly. proposals that have been talked about, the republican budget basically terminating medicare or whittling away at it, increasing the eligibility age from 65 to 67, what is a person to do when they are 65 and cannot get private insurance and at the same time they want to do away with the opportunity that exists in the affordable health care act for an exchange that could possibly provide the insurance. they want to do away with that. come on. this is america. this is where we take caref the elderly and provide the services. medicare can be dealt with. we can deal with the inflation in medicare and in the affordable care act, many things were done to start on that process. for example, keeping seniors healthy, providing for the annual medical checkup, making sure they had the drug benefits, making sure that part d was available to all seniors, closing the doughnut hole in the medicare part d drug benefit. electronic medical records. infection rates in hospitals

of these incidents happening in america makes me say, you know, enough is enough. there's got to be a rational way to sort through this. i'm not saying i've got a perfect piece of legislation. i don't think there is a single perfect piece of legislation. but in a country where we got 30,000 gun deaths a year, there's got to be a way that we can do a bit more. i hope that responsible gun owners around america will join in this conversation as well. i think we have to recognize that it is about rational appropriate gun rules but also about mental health issues. my hope is our country takes a deep breath and doesn't just simply get exercised by this for a few moments and then push this horrible tragedy back into the background and forget about it. >> ifill: assuming that there is is not one single solution here, let's talk about what you mean when you say rational gun control. senator feinstein says an assault weapons ban would be rational. would you agree with that? >> i think that from the evidence i've seen that a lot of the challenge comes around the speed by which you can shoot... in effect, you

people that we could possibly have in the united states of america, old folks whose cost of living is going up, whose health care have increased, and now we have a formula that was original designed to find out what was the cost of living so that the social security check will be able to be increased to meet the cost of living. now we're doing it backwards. we find out how much money we want to save. incidentally social security was never supposed to be involved in this procedure. how much money do we want to save, and then we say we'll get a formula, and the formula will save us that much money over ten years. it's just not fair to do this to old folks, most of whom are dependant on their checks completely or in part. >> congressman, why should social security not be part of it? people aren't stupid. we all know what the three major drivers of our debt are, medicare, medicaid, social security. social security hasn't been changed. all that's been changed is they changed the eligibility age and that's about it. >> the only reason that it is not supposed to be a part of this because

believe that is absolutely correct. corporate america has high margins right now, but they have come because of cost-cutting and cost-cutting and profit trend is run out right now to grow in the future i think they're going to have to invest in will have to invest in people so employment getting gradually better, you'll have to invest in technology and capital goods and i think it creates a boom in the u.s. economy along with energy, along with hosting. liz: make us some money here, what are you investing with the perspective you have articulated? >> i agree with a lot of what michael is saying, but taking little bit of a different approach. going from sector to sector, i find it very hard with the growing monetary basis, there will be particular standout sectors that we can invest in now and we will be profiting from six months from now. i'd much rather see people they want to be shown the business of the market and make some cash, a broad-based index. don't worry about value or growth or housing. but it will be great. just get the whole index and the rise of the market, if you want
